ME/CFS is a description of symptoms, not causes. Everyone has different underlying reasons why they’re ill and everyone’s recovery will be different.
The lack of a ‘one size fits all’ path to recovery is challenging. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for others. So if someone tells you that a particular supplement or procedure worked for them, just take it as a point of data. Equally, if something didn’t work for someone, that doesn’t mean you should rule it out for yourself.
To complicate things further, what works for us at one stage of recovery isn’t necessarily what will help at another stage, and vice versa. So it’s important to stay open to going back to things that didn’t work at an earlier stage, although we can approach them with caution.
There may also be more than one cause, so by improving a small amount here and taking a stress load off our body there, we can build up our overall energy levels bit by bit.
It’s ultimately up to us to conduct experiments on ourselves to see what works for our own body. By gradually building that understanding and trust around our own unique patterns and limits over time, we can start to solve the puzzle of our own recovery.
